Indy’s Life Motto: “Hi,
I’m Indy and I’m here to have fun!” |
In
1999, Indy passed his Canine Good Citizen certification and competed in
his first obedience trial at the 1999 National Malamute Specialty show,
taking Second Place.
In
2000, Indy earned two Companion Dog titles while competing in obedience
trials, finishing his American Kennel Club CD with a First Place finish
(photo below-left). Three
weeks later, he earned his CD in United Kennel Club in one weekend, with
three First Place finishes. First
& Foremost ranked Indy as the #6 Alaskan Malamute in the Nation
in Novice A Obedience that year. Indy
earned First Place and Highest Scoring Dog in Trial at a 2001 Malamute
Specialty (photo-left). In
May of 2003, Indy and I went to Canada and earned his Canadian Kennel
Club CD in one weekend.
Indy
was always a happy worker, “smiling” all through the obedience
trials and always “woo-woo’ing” during the fast heeling portions.
Once I bravely entered a Brace Obedience trial with Indy and his
mother, who proceeded to play/wrestle during the off-leash heeling
exercise (now officially known as the “off-leash wrestlefest”).
What was I thinking?
The judge had never laughed so hard….we still earned Fourth
Place!
Indy also
earned two working titles from the Alaskan Malamute Club of America –
a Working Team Dog title for dogsledding and a Working Pack Dog title
for backpacking. Below is a
photo of Indy and his “brother” Manuk sledding on Christmas Day
2001.
