Can any dog come to Doggie Day Care?

Each dog privately receives a temperament screening prior to being accepted into Doggie Daycare. This is a process that is only done by a pet professional who is trained in animal behavior. Private consultation with you and your pet will take at least 30 minutes of one on one time with the pet care provider going over very detailed information about your pet. (Application to be completed prior to scheduled appointment). They may perform specific behavioral tests with your dog. Plan to leave your dog at Doggie Daycare to begin the transition process. Safety should be your number one concern and introductions should always be done slowly under a watchful, trained eye.

Are there certain breeds of dogs you do not accept?

We welcome all sizes and breeds of dogs! We do not accept any aggressive dogs that may injure themselves, other dogs or our staff.  If you let us know about what temperament your dogs may have, we will advise. They may be accepted, however might have limited or no group play options. We also do not accept any dog in heat, major health or fleas/ticks problems. We also reserve the right to deny service to any dog that we believe to be unsuitable for our indoor daycare facility. (Safety of our playgroups is our absolute top priority!)

What is a CGC?

The purpose of the American Kennel Club's Canine Good Citizen Program is to ensure that our favorite companion, the dog, can be a respected member of the community because it is trained to act mannerly in the home, in public places and in the presence of other dogs

What is Home Obedience Instruction?

Our Home Obedience Program works on the skills that are needed most in the home – Housebreaking may be an issue for the youngest dogs…  Dogs learn not to get in the trash, not to steal objects or that may be left lying around either on the floor or on tables or counters.  They also learn to go up and down stairs politely, not to charge through an open door and how to greet visitors coming to the house.  Dogs also learn to lie down and stay on a rug, stand for grooming or to be dried off in wet weather.  Other skills may be taught depending on the needs of the owner.

What is required of my dog?

All dogs accepted into our daycare must be friendly towards other dogs & people and must be able to get along with a group of dogs and enjoy this type of environment. Dogs older than 6 months must have some experience playing with a group of dogs off leash (i.e. gone to a dog park or attended a dog daycare facility) For the safety of our groups, dogs should attend daycare on a regular, consistent basis (i.e. the same day(s) every week with exceptions for vacations, sickness, emergencies, etc.) It is best if your dog has completed at least one formal obedience training class or is currently attending a class either at our facility or elsewhere. All dogs must be in general good health and we highly suggest that all dogs are on a flea control program. Dogs older than 8 months must be spayed or neutered

Do the dogs fight?

The dogs are always supervised to prevent fights from beginning –We monitor the dogs' behavior to try to avoid incidents before they happen. It is policy to give all dogs involved in an incident a "time out" in a private cage to calm down.

What do the dogs do all day?

They play with other dogs in our safe, secure, temperature-controlled indoor play area, supervised by trained staff. Some dogs may play more than others, some will want more human attention, some may just lounge around. But all dogs benefit from having more space, less isolation, and interaction with each other. Should your dog/s require a structured break, private crates are available, but crating is not part of the regular curriculum.

What type of toys do you use?

We provide a wide variety of toys to entertain our playgroups. We do not allow other toys, as dogs can easily become possessive of them, and/or they may be easily damaged or destroyed.

What if my dog is not accepted into Doggie Day Care?

Whenever possible, training will be offered to correct any behavior issues that may prevent acceptance into Daycare, Daycare isn't right for everybody - which is why we first evaluate all dogs before they come and play. Many dogs (and some owners) can be a bit apprehensive at first, which is why new dogs joining the playgroup are isolated in gated areas allowing for a safe "meet and greet" session with the playgroup, without being overwhelmed! But even so, some dogs may be fearful, or have some behavioral concerns (toy aggression, for example) - and Daycare is supposed to be fun for everyone! If we think that your dog isn't enjoying Daycare, for any reason, we will let you know.
